Welcome to the new Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at the University of California, at Riverside School of Medicine (SOM)! I am Mario Sims, Distinguished Professor and Graduate Faculty Director of the MPH Program, which is administered by the Department of Social Medicine, Population and Public Health (SMPPH) in the SOM. Our program launched in Fall 2024 with an inaugural cohort of 15 MPH students.

Few MPH programs exist in the Inland Southern California Region, and yet there is a real need to focus on health equity, social mobility, and community engagement among the varied ethnic and racial groups in this region. UCR is well-suited to address this lack. Our unique two-year MPH program integrates public health expertise from across UCR’s campus, resulting in an in-depth focus on local to global public health problems and solutions.

Our program, which will expand each year, seeks to train the next generation of public health leaders to improve health in the Inland Empire. We are seeking candidates who both want to understand health inequities at the community level and to partner with communities to develop and implement effective public health initiatives. Our MPH students will develop into scholars and practitioners who are sensitive to the role of community in formulating strategies for eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity.

Welcome to the UCR MPH Program!
